Resumé

Recognition for innovation
On the evening of Saturday 21 May, Den Gamle By was presented
with the prestigious Luigi Micheletti Award. The prize is annually
awarded to an innovative museum working with recent history.
Den Gamle By was nominated for the Luigi Micheletti Award,
in part for its work in connection with updating the museum. The
museum now also includes period-rooms depicting the 1960s
and 1970s and has developed special experiences for marginalized
groups such as people suffering from dementia and mentally
handicapped children. The museum has also developed an innovative
model for documentation of contemporary life. Examples
include, a project involving a homeless person who lived in a
backyard at the museum for three months and a Somali home
which the museum opened in the spring. In these cases,
the
museum’s
visitors have had an opportunity to visit homes and
individuals they would hardly otherwise have been able to visit.
This is the first time a Danish museum has been awarded the
prize, which has been given every year since 1995, and we at Den
Gamle By are extremely proud to receive it.
