Danish Centre for Urban History annual report
2015 has been a year of expansion, new projects and many different activities
for the centre. Some large research projects were started last year
and have taken new steps this year.
In connection with the research project Urban Diaspora, an investigation
of immigration to Danish cities in the early modern period, c. 1450-1650,
two seminars were held in Elsinore and Aarhus; Jakob Ørnbjerg, the centre’s
post doc, has been writing and presenting related preliminary results.
The cross-disciplinary research network Urban Orders at Aarhus University
held a large workshop on the Gellerup Park housing area, with stakeholders,
users and researchers.
The centre has developed new platforms for international collaboration,
for example centres of urban studies in Berlin, Antwerp and New York,
where there have been ongoing projects with colleagues through the year.
Among the resulting publications from the centre is an article on the redevelopment
of Aarhus Harbour for a book on the creative city in historical
perspective. Book titles this year are Mette Tapdrups Pensionatets kulturhistorie
on the history of the urban guest house, and Mikkel Thelles Rådhuspladsen
1900, on how Copenhagen City Hall Square and public spaces
changed around the turn of the last century.
