From Italy to Den Gamle By
Den Gamle By now has a pizzeria. It is located in the new 2014 street, and visitors can enjoy a pizza. The inspiration for the interior  comes from four pizzerias on Lolland and Falster, which the museum visited in order to get better representation of the two islands at the museum. In addition to serving pizza we also convey its history. Pizza presumably originates in Naples, where Queen Margherita’s visit in 1889 helped make it famous. Although Danes knew of pizza in the 1930s, it did not become widespread until the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In 2014 pizzerias were a very common sight in Danish streets and now you can experience a typical Danish pizzeria in Den Gamle By – and can enjoy a pizza.
