Obituary, Lars Vester Jakobsen
The former conservator at Den Gamle By, Lars Vester Jakobsen,
died on 15 February after a long illness. He trained as
a conservator, specialising in conservation of paintings and
paint at the School of Conservation at the Royal Danish
Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he started in
1973. After graduating, he worked in paint conservation at
the National Museum of Denmark until his appointment as
head of Den Gamle By’s conservation department on 1 April
1979, which he held until 1999. Lars was well liked by his
colleagues in the conservation department, and he achieved
a great deal through his sincere enthusiasm and deep professional
insight during almost twenty years of service as head
conservator in Den Gamle By.
