Jazzbar Bent J at Den Gamle By
Jazzbar Bent J was started in 1973 at Nørre Allé 66 in Aarhus as a pub and
jazz bar by the jazz enthusiast Bent J. Jensen.
In spite of its small size, with only 57 square metres, Jazzbar Bent J managed
to present some of the greatest international jazz stars and the best
Danish jazz musicians. At the same time, the place was a venue for a motley
crowd of regulars.
Just after the jazz bar closed in 2008, all fixtures and objects were carefully
taken down and stored by Den Gamle By. Jazzbar Bent J was re-established
in the museum’s modern section and inaugurated with a series of
jazz concerts in the spring of 2015.
Bent J’s jazz bar preserves a part of Danish pub history as well as a
unique part of the local jazz history in Aarhus with documentation for posterity.
